Littonfields Barn –Dining Guide

If you wish to eat out at one of the local pubs or restaurants we recommend
that you book in advance of your stay to be sure of getting a table
as the best ones are usually fully booked by the weekend

Local Pubs & Restaurants:

The Red Lion, Litton - 01298 871458    theredlionlitton.co.uk
Just a short stroll away, in the centre of Litton on the village green, next to the stocks!
A traditional village pub with real ales, lots of locals (always a good sign) and log fires. It has a good reputation for its food and therefore gets booked up. Unfortunately, they do not allow children under 7.
In good weather it is great to sit outside on the village green where they have plenty of tables and benches.

The Merchant’s Yard, Tideswell – 01298 872442 (1½  miles) www.themerchantsyard.com
A new local restaurant which is receiving great reviews, offering a full Restaurant Menu Weds to Saturday, Sunday Lunch and Afternoon Teas.  They also have a lovely bar area with fine wines, local craft beers and Cocktails . Family friendly with high chairs and a “Mini Merchant Hour“ 4.30 – 5.30pm Wed to Sat.
It’s a lovely walk over Litton Edge to Tideswell, so why not leave the car and walk -  you can enjoy the views and walk off your lunch on your return journey.

The Barrel Inn, Bretton,—01433 630856 (3 miles) www.thebarrelinn.co.uk
Claiming to be the highest pub in Derbyshire, it goes without saying that the views are amazing!  The food is pretty good too. They do allow children, but do not supply highchairs.

The Bulls Head, Foolow – 01433 630873 (4  miles)   www.thebullatfoolow.co.uk
Lovely family owned and family friendly pub (with high chairs) in the hamlet of Foolow,  They offer food either in the bar area or separate restaurant with high chairs available.  There is an interesting menu of freshly prepared meals, with an emphasis on using local ingredients. Check out the specials board which changes weekly. Probably our favourite local pub for families

The Ashford Arms, Ashford-in-the-water 01629 812725 (5 miles)
www.ashford-arms.co.uk
This has a good reputation for its Sunday Lunches at reasonable prices. They offer a choice of roasts, with all of the accompaniments—the Yorkshire Puddings are huge!  Please check out their website for weekday specials. They are family friendly with a separate dining area in the conservatory and in the summer the beer garden is very popular.  Beautiful village to walk off your lunch!

Simply Thai, Buxton – 01298 24471 (approx 9 miles) www.simplythaibuxton.co.uk
Delicious thai food with an authentic setting. They are open 7 days a week for lunch and evening meals - They do a rather good lunchtime special! You can also order and collect a takeway with 10% discount – menu available in the barn.

Piedaniel’s Restaurant, Bakewell- 01629 812687  (7 miles) www.piedaniels-restaurant.com
If you are looking for something a bit special then Piedaniels is well worth considering.  It offers traditional French cuisine with a European twist, served in a warm and friendly atmosphere.  They have a popular fixed price weekday lunch and evening menu - £18 for 3 courses along with an a la carte menu. Please check out their website for full details – booking is essential. Not recommended with young children.

Tea Rooms/Cafés

High Nelly’s  -  Tideswell (1 ½ miles)
High Nelly’s  is a great destination for your country walk just over the hill to the next village of Tideswell.  Serving Tea, coffees, homemade cakes, brunch, lunch etc. They offer a slightly different menu of really delicious food. We recommend the home made waffles, with maple syrup and cream…..mmm!

Hassop Station Café & Shop (6 miles)
Located in the beautiful old Hassop Station building, a mile outside Bakewell and right next to the Monsal Trail. This family friendly Café has a really good choice of food, (great homemade  burgers)  and plenty of space indoors, together with a covered out-door seating area with playhouses for children. There is also a gift/book shop and cycle hire for the Monsal Trail.  Ideal for lunch or coffee after your walk /bike ride on the trail.
